Six String Jazz - Tenderly.mp3

The evening breeze caressed the trees, tenderly
The trembling trees embraced the breeze, tenderly
Then you and I came wandering by
And lost in a sigh were we

The shore was kissed by sea and mist, tenderly
I can't forget how two hearts met, breathlessly
Your arms opened wide and closed me inside
You took my lips, you took my love, so tenderly

One of the most sappy, sentimental, mawkish tunes is "Tenderly," written by Walter Gross & Jack Lawrence in 1946 shortly as WW II came to a close. Rosemary Clooney (aunt of George) made it a hit and such divas as Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, and Anita O'Day put their touch on this great ballad.

John Lennon, who had once slammed his former band mate in an interview, saying that all McCartney ever wrote anymore were 'silly love songs' that Paul answered with a Wings song by the same name.

Yesterday the trio gave Tenderly a shot. It's 6+ mins long, it's no Bohemian Rhapsody nor Like A Rolling Stone, but it has lasted 75+ years for a reason. It's another silly love song.
