Jazz Dogs - Song For My Father.mp3

"Song For My Father" is a well worn tune that's often part of a tyro's initiation and a jazz camp favorite. Written in 1965 by Horace Silver, a pianist and hard bop pioneer, it has endured because it is a great joy to play.  Our take is below:

This is the first time we'd played with Lew Martin, our new drummer. We recorded  eight tunes today and we're pleased to have Lew on board. When he's not drumming with us he's an orthopaedic surgeon at Vanderbilt.

Ian Saylor, piano
Don Fishel, flute
Lew Martin, drums
Wayne Renardson, bass

Recorded on a hand-held Tascam DR-40 in Wayne's living room Nov. 3rd.
