Six String Jazz- Black Orpheus.mp3

Luiz Bonfa was a Brazilian guitarist and composer know for the music from Hollywood's banned "Black Orpheus." Born in 1922 he worked with Stan Getz and Jobim to bring bossa nova to us.

As you know, jazz, like much music, opens with a melody called a 'head.' After a chorus or two, the jazz demon takes over and dives into the heart of jazz, improvisation. Here the players improvise and/or solo (piano) over the chords ,playing what they feel before returning to the less busy outro, often restating the 'head.'

You can listen above:

Players:

Ian Saylor, piano
Rob Stiteler, drums
Wayne Renardson, bass

Recorded on a hand-held Tascam DR-40 in Wayne's living room.
